Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Elias Nunes got the match started through his kick off. After 4 played minutes Fluminense RJ got a freekick which was hit by Bebeto Costa. In the 6th minute, Didi Negri hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 7th minute of the match Agostinho Sarmento shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Ricardo Maciel showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. 10 minutes into the game, Fluminense RJ's Edmundo Mesquita nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ricardo Pinheiro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Bebeto Costa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. When Edmundo Mesquita came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Fluminense RJ fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edmundo Mesquita couldn't finish the play. The Fluminense RJ fans' excitement grew in the 18th match minute when Fluminense RJ's Edmundo Mesquita looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 27th minute, Edmundo Mesquita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Fluminense RJ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. 34 minutes into the match, Edmundo Mesquita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ricardo Pinheiro. Benevenuto's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Edmundo Mesquita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Edmundo Mesquita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Pinheiro having to interfere. A collision led to Fluminense RJ getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Bebeto Costa hit a great ball. After having played for 46 minutes, Elias Nunes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Benevenuto's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elias Nunes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Edmundo Mesquita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Edmundo Mesquita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 59 minutes, Didi Negri mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Fluminense RJ and the Benevenuto players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Rossi in the 62nd minute of play forced Fluminense RJ's goalkeeper Ricardo Maciel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ricardo Maciel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Rossi, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. The audience was convinced that Edmundo Mesquita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ricardo Pinheiro was relentless in the 66th minute of the game. When Erik Porto fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Benevenuto's protests and gave Erik Porto a yellow card for diving instead. Erik Porto hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. Fluminense RJ's Edmundo Mesquita was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 68th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. After a rather tough play, Fluminense RJ's Gilvan Luz got a free kick in the 71st minute. 78 minutes into the match, Fluminense RJ's goal looked a bit too open when Elias Nunes came free, but Ricardo Maciel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 80 played minutes Benevenuto got a freekick which was hit by Albertino Matos. In the 81st minute Gilvan Luz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Pinheiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Benevenuto booed when Fluminense RJ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robinho Galvão didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cássio Bastos charged in rather forcefully in the 95th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cássio Bastos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Benevenuto getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Cássio Bastos hit a great ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Fluminense RJ walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
