Caetano Soeiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cacá Terra, who was totally free with the ball in the 13th minute. Walmyr Jacinto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 15th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Grimeia booed when VASCO DA GAMA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vivaldo Cordeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Simão Passos received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Donato Britto came out and tried to block the shot, but Simão Passos slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 22nd minute. When the match had gone on for 30 minutes, Walmyr Jacinto took a quick shot and it went in 3-0 without a chance for Donato Britto to make any attempt to save it. Donato Britto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gabriel Garcia, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Grimeia's Walmyr Jacinto got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Simão Passos could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 44th minute of the match, but Donato Britto made a huge save. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Simão Passos made a kick off. Donato Britto came out of the goal in the 52nd minute to try and stop a shot by Grimeia's Gabriel Garcia. But to his dismay, Gabriel Garcia quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. Walmyr Jacinto might have been able to make a better finish in the 56th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Donato Britto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Walmyr Jacinto ran back to his position shaking his head. Gabriel Garcia charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gabriel Garcia the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The crowd rose to their feet as VASCO DA GAMA's Cacá Terra slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Caetano Soeiro. That made the score 4-1 after 62 minutes of play. Donato Britto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Simão Passos in the 66th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Simão Passos in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Donato Britto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 77 minutes into the match, VASCO DA GAMA's goal looked a bit too open when Walmyr Jacinto came free, but Donato Britto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 80 minutes into the match, Grimeia's goal looked a bit too open when Cacá Terra came free, but Caetano Soeiro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 82 minutes of play, Grimeia's Simão Passos made it 5-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Donato Britto was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 85 played minutes Grimeia got a freekick which was hit by Romeu Valle. Donato Britto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Simão Passos in the 87th minute of the match. When Róbson Quirino fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Grimeia's protests and gave Róbson Quirino a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Grimeia fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 96th minute. Penalty!
