With a little luck, VASCO DA GAMA's Perivaldo Schmidt got control of the ball when Diamantino Baptista tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Jean Saldanha fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. After a defensive mix-up in Atlético Clube Aliança's zone, Alfredinho Vasconcelos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luís Sena came out of the goal and Alfredinho Vasconcelos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 48 minutes of play, Atlético Clube Aliança's Tiaguinho Nogueira made it 4-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Perivaldo Schmidt was left in no man's land by his defense there!

Luís Sena showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sandro Xavier, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. If Mazinho Hermes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Atlético Clube Aliança's Wawrzyniec Waselewicz got a free kick in the 63rd minute. 66 minutes into the match, Atlético Clube Aliança's goalkeeper Luís Sena had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Zeca Pena. Zeca Pena was shown his second yellow card after 75 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. In the 76th match minute, VASCO DA GAMA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Zeca Pena to maneuver through the defense. Perivaldo Schmidt took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mazinho Hermes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 94th match minute, Atlético Clube Aliança was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cássio da Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Atlético Clube Aliança had played much better football throughout.
