Itacuru's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Tiago FC the free kick. Evandro Quintal's late challenge caught a Itacuru's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 96th minute of the match Itacuru got a corner. Tiago FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. After taking down the ball on Itacuru's corner Luís Gustavo da Cunha fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and José Maria Motta quite easily take care of the ball. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Tiago FC lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
