When Lúcio Mendes fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Garanhuns's protests and gave Lúcio Mendes a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Garanhuns getting a freekick after 4 minutes play. Lúcio Mendes hit a great ball. After having played for 9 minutes, Vinícius Cardoso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Garanhuns's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vinícius Cardoso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Tiago Sampaio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 15th match minute, Garanhuns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvério Mesquita to maneuver through the defense. Luís Paulo da Silva, 16 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Eliseu dos Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vinícius Cardoso, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. Dráuzio Coelho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio Lopez having to interfere. If Gilmar de Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 28th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 30 minutes, Dráuzio Coelho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Varjoia AD's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dráuzio Coelho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Varjoia AD's Tiago Sampaio was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 34th play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Vinícius Cardoso in the 37th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Eliseu dos Santos saved Varjoia AD from getting behind. The referee felt a red card was in order, 39 minutes into the game, when Renato Ramalho put in a rough tackle. The referee gave Garanhuns a penalty, 41 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Silvério Mesquita, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Varjoia AD's Eliseu dos Santos. 2-1. Vinícius Cardoso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eliseu dos Santos having to interfere. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gilmar de Senna made a kick off. Thanks to some nice moves Vinícius Cardoso could shoot a difficult shot in the 52nd minute, which Eliseu dos Santos however easily saved by the left post. Gilmar de Senna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 54 minutes into the game, Rodrigo da Silveira was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Garanhuns's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Varjoia AD the free kick. Rodrigo da Silveira kicked well hit freekick during the 54th minute of the match. When Vinícius Cardoso came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Garanhuns fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Vinícius Cardoso couldn't finish the play. In the 63rd match minute, Varjoia AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Andrézinho Baiano to maneuver through the defense. Vinícius Cardoso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eliseu dos Santos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilmar de Senna in the 66th minute of play. Varjoia AD's Eliseu dos Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vinícius Cardoso in the 67th minute of play. Gilmar de Senna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 68th minute. Eliseu dos Santos tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 70th minute Gilmar de Senna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eliseu dos Santos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 80th minute, Vinícius Cardoso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Garanhuns's supporters rose to their feet, but Vinícius Cardoso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eliseu dos Santos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd rose to their feet as Garanhuns's Gilmar de Senna slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Eliseu dos Santos. That made the score 2-2 after 82 minutes of play. Vinícius Cardoso did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-3 to the left of a surprised Eliseu dos Santos 86 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Gilmar de Senna managed to get in a good position for a shot. Garanhuns's supporters rose to their feet, but Gilmar de Senna was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eliseu dos Santos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Eliseu dos Santos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vinícius Cardoso in the 93rd minute. In the 94th match minute, Garanhuns was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Silvério Mesquita to maneuver through the defense.
