Augusto Rezende's late challenge caught a Pompeo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Augusto Rezende helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Pompeo booed when Vargem EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 62 match minutes in a wonderful position. Augusto Rezende didn't get a good kick on the ball. Eugênio Lira was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 63rd minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from João Carlos Domingues. Pompeo's Antônio Rosado got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Eugênio Lira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arlindo Cerezo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69th minute, Antônio Rosado made a precise shot to the right of Eugênio Lira. Vargem EC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-1. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 76th minute of the game. One of Pompeo:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Vargem EC:s goal. Antônio Rosado recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 83rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 85 minutes into the match, Pompeo's goal looked a bit too open when Mané da Silveira came free, but Túlio Nóbrega reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 86 minutes, Tostão Urbano mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Pompeo and the Vargem EC players grew even worse after the yellow card.
