When Dinei Mota came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Ponte preta fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dinei Mota couldn't finish the play. Douglas Salgado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Acácio Oliveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Acácio Oliveira in the 24th minute of play forced E.C Salvador's goalkeeper Douglas Salgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Acácio Oliveira in the 26th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Douglas Salgado saved E.C Salvador from getting behind. E.C Salvador's Douglas Salgado played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dinei Mota in the 29th minute of play. The supporters of Ponte preta booed when E.C Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giuseppe Sabóia didn't get a good kick on the ball. 39 minutes into the match, E.C Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Acácio Oliveira came free, but Douglas Salgado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Acácio Oliveira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas Salgado having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marcus Fernandez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
