Zeferino SC's Paulo José Guimarães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luisão Prata in the 21st minute of play. In the 26th minute Benjamin Maranhense shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dadá Favoretto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by Canela's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jacinto Novaes was slow to take the kick. During this time Zeferino SC's players had a chance to rest. Dadá Favoretto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from César Amorim, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. Zeferino SC's César Amorim got a good chance for a goal in the 43rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Benjamin Maranhense fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dadá Favoretto having to interfere. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Bruninho Lara made a kick off. Paulo José Guimarães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luisão Prata fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo José Guimarães having to interfere. Paulo José Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luisão Prata, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Claudinho Maranhense charged in rather forcefully in the 61st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Claudinho Maranhense the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Zeferino SC's Claudinho Maranhense got a free kick in the 61st minute. After having played for 63 minutes, Luisão Prata managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Canela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luisão Prata was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Canela booed when Zeferino SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wellington Moreira didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match clock showed 70 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Bruninho Lara sped through Zeferino SC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Paulo José Guimarães. César Amorim succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-2 in the 81st playminute. In the 84th minute of the match, Benjamin Maranhense tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Dadá Favoretto saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bruninho Lara in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paulo José Guimarães prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 92nd minute, João Francisco Nunes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Benjamin Maranhense blasted a shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Dadá Favoretto having to make a save. Bruninho Lara might have been able to make a better finish in the 97th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulo José Guimarães. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Bruninho Lara ran back to his position shaking his head. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Canela lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
