Edmílson Novaes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elói de Medeiros in the 7th minute of play. Elivélton Zonta hit a great freekick 9 minutes into the match. The supporters of Muniz Sport Club booed when Massarandiba EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jacinto Arce didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 15th match minute, Muniz Sport Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cláudio Valladares to maneuver through the defense. When Simão Gerber came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Massarandiba EC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Simão Gerber couldn't finish the play. Muniz Sport Club's Eriberto Recife played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulo Coelho in the 19th minute of play. Eriberto Recife made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Simão Gerber sent off a good shot on target. 29 minutes into the game, Massarandiba EC's Romeu Lira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Eriberto Recife made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Geovânio de Almeida kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Ramiro Rosado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Eriberto Recife tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Massarandiba EC's zone, Elói de Medeiros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edmílson Novaes came out of the goal and Elói de Medeiros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 42 minutes, Jacinto Arce mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Massarandiba EC and the Muniz Sport Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Massarandiba EC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Jacinto Arce hit a great ball. In the 45th minute Zé Paulo Meireles shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edmílson Novaes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Zé Paulo Meireles scored 2-1 in the 48th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Edmílson Novaes, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Paulo Coelho was the one to do the kick off. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 57 minutes into the match, Muniz Sport Club's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Coelho came free, but Eriberto Recife reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Elói de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Cláudio Valladares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Muniz Sport Club's supporters rose to their feet, but Cláudio Valladares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edmílson Novaes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 69th minute, Zé Paulo Meireles got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. If Laércio Nascimento had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Simão Gerber came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Massarandiba EC fans jumped to their feet.
