In the 12th match minute, BAHIA FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ivo Garcia to maneuver through the defense. Narciso Moraes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Percy Esteves having to interfere. The tension between the SC Internacional and the BAHIA FC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 41 played minutes SC Internacional got a freekick which was hit by Wellington de Queiroz. After 43 played minutes SC Internacional got a freekick which was hit by Filipe de Souza. 48 minutes into the match, SC Internacional's goal looked a bit too open when Valdir Moreno came free, but Percy Esteves reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Wellington de Queiroz was the one to do the kick off. Ivo Garcia took the ball and in the 61 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Percy Esteves. Percy Esteves dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Narciso Moraes in the 68th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Percy Esteves saved SC Internacional from getting behind. Percy Esteves showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivo Garcia in the 72nd minute of the match. Ivo Garcia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Percy Esteves tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jarbas Arósio's late challenge caught a BAHIA FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ivo Garcia's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Percy Esteves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play.
