With a couple of smart ball manuevers Fernandão Vinhas in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Emílio Passos saved Fluminense FC from getting behind. 18 minutes into the match, Fluminense FC's Dé Galvão sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Albertinho Saraiva narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Albertinho Saraiva showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hernani Barros in the 22nd minute of the match. 25 minutes into the match, Hernani Barros had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Albertinho Saraiva. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hernani Barros was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Albertinho Saraiva was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Albertinho Saraiva took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dé Galvão, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 41 minutes into the game, Luís Gustavo de Godoi recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Emílio Passos. Luís Gustavo de Godoi showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-2. Hernani Barros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 48th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hernani Barros made a kick off. Hernani Barros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 59 minutes into the game, Eduardo Cordeiro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fluminense FC the free kick. When the match clock showed 60 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Dé Galvão sped through S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Albertinho Saraiva. If Dé Galvão had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hernani Barros succeeded in the game's 66th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-4. In the 70th minute, Dé Galvão got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Hernani Barros received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Albertinho Saraiva tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Hernani Barros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. Fluminense FC's Emílio Passos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Gustavo de Godoi in the 83rd minute of play. Frédson de Lara charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Frédson de Lara the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Fluminense FC getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Frédson de Lara hit a great ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Fluminense FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
