In the 6th minute, Charles Chaves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 16th minute of the match, Charles Chaves tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Enio Moraes saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After having played for 20 minutes, Rogério Campidelis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mariante's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rogério Campidelis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Enio Moraes guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Charles Chaves in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Enio Moraes saved Mariante from getting behind. 1-1 became the score in the 40th minute when Charles Chaves elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rogério Campidelis in the 44th minute of play forced Baianos's goalkeeper Dráuzio Freire to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Régis Britto hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. In the 46th minute Charles Chaves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Enio Moraes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. João de Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rogério Campidelis to make the kick off. When the match had gone on for 59 minutes, Charles Chaves put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Enio Moraes. Enio Moraes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João de Lara in the 66th minute of the match. A very good chance. 73 minutes into the match, Rogério Campidelis dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Dráuzio Freire, 2-2. Mariante's Enio Moraes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by João de Lara in the 78th minute of play.
