After a defensive mix-up in Chacalumbra's zone, Cipriano Abraão stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Belmiro Netto came out of the goal and Cipriano Abraão tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Chacalumbra's Belmiro Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Michel da Silveira in the 18th minute of play. In the 21st minute of the match, Glauco Soares got a very nice opportunity to score, but Afonsinho Prado was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Glauco Soares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Elivélton Moraes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Belmiro Netto was relentless in the 29th minute of the game.
