Eriberto Correia was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 36 minutes into the match. 36 minutes into the game, one of Cupuba SS:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. A collision led to Fomento getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Benedito Monteiro hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luís Eduardo Couto in the 92nd minute of play forced Fomento's goalkeeper Leopoldo Koehler to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Luís Eduardo Couto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Cupuba SS manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Fomento to win.
