Apuires SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave CR Jacarepaguá the free kick. After a rather tough play, Apuires SC's Fernandão da Silva got a free kick in the 14th minute. Benedito Coutinho scored 1-2 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sidnei Madureira, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Sidnei Madureira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Durvalino Dracena, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Stefan Ziegler took the ball and in the 29 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Sidnei Madureira. Sidnei Madureira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. After some careless play in the Apuires SC defense, Stefan Ziegler kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sidnei Madureira. The Apuires SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sidnei Madureira should have stopped the shot. With a little luck, CR Jacarepaguá's José Maria Mendes got control of the ball when Laércio Secco tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sidnei Madureira stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Durvalino Dracena's shot from short distance in the 39th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernandão Arruda in the 41st minute of play forced CR Jacarepaguá's goalkeeper José Maria Mendes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Naldo Linares lost his temper 42 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. The supporters of Apuires SC booed when CR Jacarepaguá was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Naldo Linares didn't get a good kick on the ball. 44 minutes into the match, Apuires SC's Zé Augusto Mota broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-4 lead.

The supporters of CR Jacarepaguá booed when Apuires SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Giuseppe Perez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sidnei Madureira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cido de Alcântara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of CR Jacarepaguá booed when Apuires SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Laércio Secco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Durvalino Dracena recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Acácio Azevedo struck a weak shot in the 64th minute. Sidnei Madureira didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for CR Jacarepaguá. In the 72nd minute of the match Váldson Cunha shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sidnei Madureira showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Edgard de Barros hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. When CR Jacarepaguá's Durvalino Dracena in the 76th minute got a chance for a shot 76th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Apuires SC's goalie prevented a goal. Durvalino Dracena who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 81stth minute tested the skills of Sidnei Madureira when he managed to save the team from getting behind. José Maria Mendes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fernandão Arruda in the 83rd minute of the match. CR Jacarepaguá's Durvalino Dracena managed to work through Apuires SC's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Durvalino Dracena dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Acácio Azevedo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Sidnei Madureira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When CR Jacarepaguá's Durvalino Dracena in the 90th minute got a chance for a shot 90th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Apuires SC's goalie prevented a goal. Acácio Azevedo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sidnei Madureira having to interfere. The throw-in from Roberto Oliveira in the 95th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by CR Jacarepaguá's Acácio Azevedo. In the 96th minute, Edgard de Barros hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. CR Jacarepaguá played a much better game than Apuires SC and deserved their victory. The Apuires SC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
