Jean Berger showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vágner de Sena in the 34th minute of the match. 35 minutes into the game, Silas Xavier was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Nacional Football Team's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Patriota 1980 the free kick. A collision led to Patriota 1980 getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Simão Guedes hit a great ball. 44 minutes into the game, Vágner de Sena cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Jean Berger was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After the first half Patriota 1980 were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Caetano Paulista made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Nacional Football Team getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Jack Bartha hit a great ball. In the 53rd minute, Chiquinho Netto fired a really elegant long shot, but Jean Berger threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Betão Mangueira took the ball and in the 56 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Oséas Tavares. Oséas Tavares dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. After some careless play in the Patriota 1980 defense, Betão Mangueira kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Oséas Tavares. The Patriota 1980 fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Oséas Tavares should have stopped the shot. José Vítor de Moraes hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. 66 minutes into the match, Nacional Football Team's goal looked a bit too open when Abelardo Nogueira came free, but Jean Berger reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Abelardo Nogueira took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Jean Berger. Jean Berger dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-3. The supporters of Patriota 1980 booed when Nacional Football Team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jack Bartha didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Vágner de Sena got free with Jean Berger in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jean Berger showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Caetano Paulista, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. When David Greef fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nacional Football Team's protests and gave David Greef a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Nacional Football Team's David Greef got a free kick in the 86th minute. Betão Mangueira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Oséas Tavares having to interfere. Patriota 1980's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
