The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Francisco Rezende didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Armandinho Arósio went, in the 6th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. A collision led to Sport Dornelas getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Reinaldo Damião hit a great ball. After 14 played minutes Sport Dornelas got a freekick which was hit by Mauro Vinhas. Armandinho Arósio scored 0-2 in the 15th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Francisco Rezende, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Armandinho Arósio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Francisco Rezende having to interfere. A collision led to Sport Dornelas getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Maurinho Amorim hit a great ball. Armandinho Arósio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Francisco Rezende tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fellipe Borges struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Göran Andersson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sport Dornelas. In the 43rd minute, Armandinho Arósio ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Francisco Rezende was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Francisco Rezende showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Régis Vianna, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Maurinho Amorim stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Armandinho Arósio managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ausentes FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Armandinho Arósio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Francisco Rezende breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 61st minute Armandinho Arósio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Francisco Rezende saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 72 played minutes Sport Dornelas got a freekick which was hit by Fiori Corrêa. Through an outstanding action, after 79 minutes, Francisco Rezende successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. If Armandinho Arósio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Göran Andersson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maurinho Amorim in the 90th minute of play. Armandinho Arósio's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Francisco Rezende read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play. Ausentes FC's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
