The supporters of XV de Julho de 1944 booed when Diabos Vermelhos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 13 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Guilherme Rezende didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gerson Teixeira charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Gerson Teixeira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 19 minutes into the game, Alfonso Del Gatto was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. XV de Julho de 1944's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Diabos Vermelhos the free kick. After 19 played minutes XV de Julho de 1944 got a freekick which was hit by Alfonso Del Gatto. In the 22nd minute, Sandro Messias fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Dida Carioca, passed just outside the right post. With a little luck, Diabos Vermelhos's Dida Carioca got control of the ball when Celsinho Aguiar tried to sneak it across the goal line. Diabos Vermelhos's Dida Carioca proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Diabos Vermelhos from getting a goal against them. Sandro Messias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dida Carioca having to interfere. In the 48th minute, Celsinho Aguiar reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dida Carioca. The goal made the score 1-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Sandro Messias made a kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sandro Messias in the 54th minute of play forced Diabos Vermelhos's goalkeeper Dida Carioca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 55thth minute of the game Celsinho Aguiar who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Diabos Vermelhos's Dida Carioca was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Celsinho Aguiar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 57th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After 71 played minutes Diabos Vermelhos got a freekick which was hit by Duda Ramalho. If Sandro Messias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd rose to their feet as Dinei Senna kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Wanderson Maciel. That made the score 1-1 in the 77 minute of play. Diabos Vermelhos's Dida Carioca played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Celsinho Aguiar in the 86th minute of play. Dida Carioca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Celsinho Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Dida Carioca showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sandro Messias in the 89th minute of the match. 94 minutes into the game, XV de Julho de 1944's Sandro Messias nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Carioca made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Celsinho Aguiar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 98th minute.
