After a defensive mix-up in Ituguacu SS's zone, Mihai Stelea stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gernando Hermes came out of the goal and Mihai Stelea tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Ituguacu SS getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Valdo Munhoz hit a great ball. Gernando Hermes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Damazy Chowaniec, who was totally free with the ball in the 19th minute. If Valdo Munhoz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 24th minute, Oriente's Emanuel Cardozo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Emanuel Cardozo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Oriente protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Emanuel Cardozo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Oriente fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 23rd minute. Penalty! With an all-out effort, Ituguacu SS's Miguel Quadros threw himself towards the right post 27 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Luiz Paulo Vianna, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Gernando Hermes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mihai Stelea in the 31st minute of play. In the 38th minute, Mihai Stelea left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Oriente fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

After 56 minutes, Abelardo Quirino mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Oriente and the Ituguacu SS players grew even worse after the yellow card. Ituguacu SS's Gernando Hermes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Ituguacu SS from getting a goal against them. Mihai Stelea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gernando Hermes having to interfere. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 80 minutes into the match, Oriente's goal looked a bit too open when Luiz Paulo Vianna came free, but Miguel Quadros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 84th minute Luiz Paulo Vianna shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Quadros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mihai Stelea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gernando Hermes having to interfere.
