With a couple of smart ball manuevers Laerte Maranhense in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Cláudio Aparecido saved Cantareira FC from getting behind. 20 minutes into the match, Baia FC's goal looked a bit too open when Edgar Mattos came free, but Daniel Gamza reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Baia FC's Daniel Gamza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Baia FC from getting a goal against them. The Cantareira FC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Baia FC were winning 1-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Laerte Maranhense stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gonçalo Tande got free with Cláudio Aparecido in the 96th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Baia FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Baia FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
