The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Edson Ortiz helped the player get up and apologised. After 17 played minutes Campinense FC got a freekick which was hit by Edson Ortiz. If Norberto Schmidt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Antônio Carlos Reis came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Campinense FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Antônio Carlos Reis couldn't finish the play. 31 minutes into the game, Campinense FC's Júlio Pinheiro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Antônio Mangueira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Júlio Pinheiro in the 34th minute of play forced Pontezinha's goalkeeper Antônio Mangueira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After the first half Campinense FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luiz Fábio Massa was the one to do the kick off. Antônio Carlos Reis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. The referee gave Pontezinha a penalty, 77 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Renato Lucas, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Campinense FC's Vladimir Vides. 1-1. When Marcelinho Albuquerque came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Campinense FC fans jumped to their feet.
