In the 20th minute, Renato Furtado made a precise shot to the right of Albertinho Oliveira. VOLTA REDONDA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. If Vivaldo Koehler had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to VOLTA REDONDA getting a freekick after 30 minutes play. Kléberson Santana hit a great ball. Renato Furtado was extremely unlucky when he, in the 32nd minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Madeira's Elói Nogueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Conrado Severo in the 34th minute of play. Ronaldão Couto might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Albertinho Oliveira. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ronaldão Couto ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 43rd minute, one of Madeira:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Madeira. After a rather tough play, VOLTA REDONDA's Conrado Severo got a free kick in the 47th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Madeira's Elói Nogueira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Jacinto in the 53rd minute of play. Renato Furtado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Albertinho Oliveira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mazinho Castro charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mazinho Castro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Madeira's Mazinho Castro got a free kick in the 60th minute. Joel Jacinto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elói Nogueira having to interfere. Albertinho Oliveira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronaldão Couto, who was totally free with the ball in the 64th minute. Madeira's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
