The audience thought a goal was coming when Haroldo Valadares got free with Joel Passos in the 11th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Ronnie Elliott got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Joel Passos made a fantastic save in the 17th minute, when Haroldo Valadares sent off a good shot on target. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ronnie Elliott stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 56 minutes into the game, Sarandy EC's Gugu das Neves nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Joel Passos made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dário Eger in the 78th minute of play forced Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Joel Passos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Haroldo Valadares fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sarandy EC's protests and gave Haroldo Valadares a yellow card for diving instead. In the 95th minute, Haroldo Valadares made a precise shot to the right of Joel Passos. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tales Dias during the 98th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 98 played minutes Sarandy EC got a freekick which was hit by Tales Dias. After a defensive mix-up in Sarandy EC's zone, Ronnie Elliott stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Waldir Camargo came out of the goal and Ronnie Elliott tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
