In the 5th minute, Doni Ferreira made a precise shot to the right of Walmyr Aparecido. Borussia Dortmund's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Grêmio Taquariense F.C.'s Vitinho Giovannetti got a good chance for a goal in the 10th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Doni Ferreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Walmyr Aparecido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Geovani Leal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Doni Ferreira struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Walmyr Aparecido didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio Taquariense F.C.. After a defensive mix-up in Borussia Dortmund's zone, Vitinho Giovannetti stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Walmyr Aparecido came out of the goal and Vitinho Giovannetti tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 21 minutes into the match, Geovani Leal had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Walmyr Aparecido. Borussia Dortmund's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Geovani Leal was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. In the 25th minute of the game Jefferson Branco made a throw-in which Erasmo Custódio played forward. In the 26th minute Haroldo Cruz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Zeti Sky saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29th minute, Vitinho Giovannetti left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Grêmio Taquariense F.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. Vitinho Giovannetti fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walmyr Aparecido having to interfere. In the 34th minute, Vitinho Giovannetti ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Walmyr Aparecido was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. Doni Ferreira took the ball and in the 38 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Walmyr Aparecido. Walmyr Aparecido dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-5. Doni Ferreira blasted a shot towards the goal in the 44th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Walmyr Aparecido having to make a save. In the 46th minute, Vitinho Giovannetti ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Walmyr Aparecido was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-6. After the first half Grêmio Taquariense F.C. were leading 0-6. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Haroldo Cruz made a kick off. After 52 minutes, Doni Ferreira made it 0-7 with a short kick to the right side. Borussia Dortmund's Walmyr Aparecido tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Vitinho Giovannetti sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Walmyr Aparecido stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Doni Ferreira's shot from short distance in the 59th minute. 61 minutes into the match, Grêmio Taquariense F.C.'s Vitinho Giovannetti sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Walmyr Aparecido narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Zeti Sky took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nelsinho Reis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69th match minute, Borussia Dortmund was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Diamantino Quintal to maneuver through the defense. If Vitinho Giovannetti had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gugu Simões recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Grêmio Taquariense F.C. played a much better game than Borussia Dortmund and deserved their victory. The Borussia Dortmund players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
