When Evaristo Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 7th minute, the Esporte Clube Ypiranga fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Evaristo Montenegro couldn't finish the play. Evaristo Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alfredão da Fonseca having to interfere. In the 26th minute Evaristo Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfredão da Fonseca saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Herval FC's goalkeeper Alfredão da Fonseca, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when André Luiz Freire got free with Alfredão da Fonseca in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The audience was convinced that Evaristo Montenegro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alfredão da Fonseca was relentless in the 36th minute of the game. Naldo de Sousa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Alberto Rocha's shot from short distance in the 41st minute. 44 minutes into the match, Herval FC's goal looked a bit too open when Evaristo Montenegro came free, but Alfredão da Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Carlos Alberto Rocha made a kick off. Herval FC's Alfredão da Fonseca played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Evaristo Montenegro in the 66th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Evaristo Montenegro in the 71st minute of play forced Herval FC's goalkeeper Alfredão da Fonseca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Esporte Clube Ypiranga getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Gilmar Pereira hit a great ball. Alfredão da Fonseca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from André Luiz Freire, who was totally free with the ball in the 80th minute.
