Bernardo Esteves went to the wrong direction when Zé Carlos Peixoto was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Bernardinho Tasso blasted a shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bernardo Esteves having to make a save. Joel Lopez's late challenge caught a Escurinho EC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Joel Lopez helped the player get up and apologised. In the 47th minute, Joel Lopez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
