In the 14th minute Luís de Mendonça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Acácio Pereira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 15 minutes into the game, Carlos Eduardo Paraense was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Southampton's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cantarem SS the free kick. Carlos Eduardo Paraense hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. 17 minutes into the match, Southampton's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Carneiro came free, but Acácio Pereira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 26th minute, Tiaguinho Fernandez left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Southampton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. Acácio Pereira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís de Mendonça, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. The audience was convinced that Vicente de Almeida's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilson Amaral was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. Vicente de Almeida scored 2-0 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Wilson Amaral, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Vicente de Almeida made a kick off. In the 55th minute of the match Southampton got a corner. Cantarem SS's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tiaguinho Fernandez ran over to the corner to take the kick. Dário Tepedino hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. After 64 played minutes Cantarem SS got a freekick which was hit by Armando Severo. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Vicente de Almeida managed to get in a good position for a shot. Southampton's supporters rose to their feet, but Vicente de Almeida was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilson Amaral breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wilson Amaral made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Waldir Alagoano in the 68th minute of play. Vicente de Almeida received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Wilson Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Vicente de Almeida fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Amaral having to interfere. Edson Martins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilson Amaral having to interfere. In the 81st minute Edson Martins suffered a knee injury and had to be helped off the field. Southampton's Cícero Velloso was substituted for Edson Martins. In a very dangerous position, a player in Cantarem SS fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 81st minute. Penalty! In the 85th minute there was a penalty for Southampton. Tiaguinho Fernandez stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Wilson Amaral. 3-0. Dino Vianna hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Waldir Alagoano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee ended the match the Southampton players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
