In the 37th match minute, As Maranhenses was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Oséias Araújo to maneuver through the defense. If Falcão Braga had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, As Maranhenses's Willian Mumbach got a free kick in the 45th minute. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Rui Bueno stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. An unexpected shot in the 94th minute by Fellipe Melo got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. If Rui Bueno had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Alvareda eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
