The audience thought a goal was coming when Edvaldo Mesquita got free with Fausto Porto in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Internacional de S. Maria booed when Cabrituba FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. After a defensive mix-up in Cabrituba FC's zone, Paulo José Branco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fausto Porto came out of the goal and Paulo José Branco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Fausto Porto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Orlando Osorio in the 22nd minute of play. Gustavo Breckenfeld's late challenge caught a Internacional de S. Maria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gustavo Breckenfeld helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Cabrituba FC's Gustavo Breckenfeld got a free kick in the 24th minute. Orlando Osorio blasted a shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Fausto Porto having to make a save. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Orlando Osorio in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Fausto Porto saved Cabrituba FC from getting behind. Orlando Osorio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fausto Porto having to interfere. Cabrituba FC's Fausto Porto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roger Mello in the 30th minute of play. After having played for 31 minutes, Zé Roberto Paulista managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cabrituba FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Zé Roberto Paulista was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Orlando Osorio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fausto Porto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Orlando Osorio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 39 played minutes Cabrituba FC got a freekick which was hit by Gustavo Breckenfeld. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Dorival Vale during the 41st minute.
