The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Geovani da Cunha got the match started through his kick off. Farias were furious when Jânio Mota was red carded, 4 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. A collision led to Farias getting a freekick after 5 minutes play. Jânio Mota hit a great ball. In the 7th minute, Jorge Linares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After having played for 9 minutes, Durval Ceresso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Farias's supporters crossed their fingers, but Durval Ceresso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Geovani da Cunha's late challenge caught a Chile's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Geovani da Cunha helped the player get up and apologised. In the 12th minute, Geovani da Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Luiz Fernando Barros didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Durval Ceresso went, in the 15th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Luiz Fernando Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Durval Ceresso in the 19th minute of play. In the 23rd match minute, Farias was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jorge Linares to maneuver through the defense. 30 minutes into the match, Durval Ceresso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luiz Fernando Barros. Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Durval Ceresso was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Raphael Silveira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Fernando Barros read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 34th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Renatinho Quirino got free with Ediberto França in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Durval Ceresso might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Luiz Fernando Barros. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Durval Ceresso ran back to his position shaking his head. After a defensive mix-up in Chile's zone, Durval Ceresso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luiz Fernando Barros came out of the goal and Durval Ceresso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

If Durval Ceresso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luiz Fernando Barros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Durval Ceresso in the 55th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Durval Ceresso in the 57th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Luiz Fernando Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Durval Ceresso fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fernando Barros having to interfere. If Durval Ceresso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 67 minutes into the match, Durval Ceresso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luiz Fernando Barros. Chile's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Durval Ceresso was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. In the 70th minute, Téo Fantini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Raphael Silveira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 74th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Chile getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Renatinho Quirino hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Durval Ceresso managed to get in a good position for a shot. Farias's supporters rose to their feet, but Durval Ceresso was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luiz Fernando Barros breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A sloppy throw-in by Vicente Sarmento in the 87th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Farias's Marcinho Félix. If Durval Ceresso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Durval Ceresso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 91 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Renatinho Quirino. Farias's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
