Yan Quadros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ernani Vergílio having to interfere. 36 minutes into the game, Vivaldo Aparecido was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Inhata's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Xui EC the free kick. A collision led to Inhata getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Vivaldo Aparecido hit a great ball. Ernani Vergílio had in the 41stth minute some difficulties stopping Laércio Paranaense's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Luís Eduardo Almeida received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Ernani Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Manoel Penha made a kick off. Ernani Vergílio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Eduardo Almeida, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
