In the 27th minute, Rafael Travassos left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Estivas EC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After some careless play in the Olympique de Marseille defense, José Maria Bastos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Andrézinho Barreto. The Olympique de Marseille fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Andrézinho Barreto should have stopped the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 34th minute, Jardel Moura managed to get in a good position for a shot. Estivas EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jardel Moura was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Andrézinho Barreto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 38th match minute, Estivas EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Dênis Quintal to maneuver through the defense. Edvaldo Guimarães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Eduardo Almeida in the 41st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Estivas EC's zone, Carlos Eduardo Almeida stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edvaldo Guimarães came out of the goal and Carlos Eduardo Almeida tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Edvaldo Vaz came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the Olympique de Marseille fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edvaldo Vaz couldn't finish the play. After the first half Estivas EC were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. José Maria Bastos was the one to do the kick off. Fellipe Gaspar kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. Geovânio Correia took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 54th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Edvaldo Guimarães. Estivas EC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Rafael Travassos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Edvaldo Vaz had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. If José Maria Bastos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Carlos Eduardo Almeida might have been able to make a better finish in the 84th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Edvaldo Guimarães. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Carlos Eduardo Almeida ran back to his position shaking his head. Edvaldo Vaz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 87th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. With a little luck, Olympique de Marseille's Andrézinho Barreto got control of the ball when Rafael Travassos tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Nilton Paraíba fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Estivas EC's protests and gave Nilton Paraíba a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Estivas EC's Nilton Paraíba got a free kick in the 91st minute.
