Renatinho Moura showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Elano Neves in the 4th minute of the match. Emílio Barbosa made an important save on a dangerous shot by João Francisco Baptista in the 9th minute. The supporters of PORTO booed when Padilha was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. David Trancoso didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, Şükrü Öge managed to get in a good position for a shot. PORTO's supporters rose to their feet, but Şükrü Öge was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Renatinho Moura breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 12th match minute, Padilha was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sebastião Cosme to maneuver through the defense. In the 13th minute of the match Şükrü Öge sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Renatinho Moura skillfully saved the ball. PORTO's Gino Gomes got a good chance for a goal in the 14th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Augusto Sá charged in rather forcefully in the 32nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Augusto Sá the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to PORTO getting a freekick after 32 minutes play. Augusto Sá hit a great ball. Emílio Barbosa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdo Vaz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 36thth minute of the game Elano Neves who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Padilha's Renatinho Moura was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Gino Gomes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Elano Neves recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 41st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The audience was convinced that Elano Neves's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Renatinho Moura was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. After the first half PORTO were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Lauro Coelho made a kick off. Renatinho Moura didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when PORTO's Elano Neves shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 0-2 in the ordered_time% minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 60th minute, Gino Gomes managed to get in a good position for a shot. PORTO's supporters rose to their feet, but Gino Gomes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Renatinho Moura breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 63rd minute, Elano Neves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 66 minutes into the game, Gino Gomes recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Renatinho Moura. Gino Gomes showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. The audience thought a goal was coming when Elano Neves got free with Renatinho Moura in the 70th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. João Francisco Baptista hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. Renatinho Moura acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 71st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Şükrü Öge. A collision led to Padilha getting a freekick after 75 minutes play. Fábio Azevedo hit a great ball. PORTO's Şükrü Öge got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gino Gomes in the 79th minute of play forced Padilha's goalkeeper Renatinho Moura to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, PORTO's Augusto Sá got a free kick in the 80th minute. If Mugurel Stancu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Elano Neves's late challenge caught a Padilha's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Elano Neves helped the player get up and apologised. After 90 played minutes PORTO got a freekick which was hit by Elano Neves. Elano Neves came free with the goalkeeper in the 95th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Renatinho Moura could save by the left post. PORTO's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
