The referee showed Murillo Silveira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After having played for 38 minutes, Pedrão Sena managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Braga FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pedrão Sena was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jefferson Sá sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tony Mendes during the 46th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After the first half Braga FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jefferson Sá made a kick off. Claudinho de Carvalho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Almir Domingues, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Atenas Itaim Pta ZL SP's zone, Afonso Costa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fiori da Mata came out of the goal and Afonso Costa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Jefferson Sá fell near the penalty area in the 58th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Braga FC's protests and gave Jefferson Sá a yellow card for diving instead. Jefferson Sá kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. Fiori da Mata made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jefferson Sá in the 60th minute of play. In the 68th minute, Jefferson Sá ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fiori da Mata was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. João Vítor Silva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 73rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fiori da Mata having to interfere. In the 78th minute, Jefferson Sá got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Jefferson Sá struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Fiori da Mata didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Braga FC. The referee ignored Braga FC's protests and gave Gilberto Valadares a yellow card for diving instead. After 87 played minutes Braga FC got a freekick which was hit by Gilberto Valadares. In the 89th minute of the match Ciro Arósio shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Claudinho de Carvalho showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball.
