Baiaozinho's Claudinei Berger got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Alfredo de Medeiros fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Baiaozinho's protests and gave Alfredo de Medeiros a yellow card for diving instead. Alfredo de Medeiros kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. In the 21st match minute, Uruguai was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manfredo Custódio to maneuver through the defense. In the 27th minute, Amílton Alves got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. With an all-out effort, Baiaozinho's Nico de Queirós threw himself towards the right post 32 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Dorival Paiva, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After a rather tough play, Baiaozinho's Hermínio Paraíba got a free kick in the 34th minute. Dorival Paiva received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nico de Queirós came out and tried to block the shot, but Dorival Paiva slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 39th minute. In the 45th minute, Claudinei Berger ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nico de Queirós was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. Amílton Alves's late challenge caught a Baiaozinho's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Amílton Alves helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Baiaozinho booed when Uruguai was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Amílton Alves didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dorival Paiva was the one to do the kick off. Nico de Queirós took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dorival Paiva, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Uruguai's zone, Claudinei Berger stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nico de Queirós came out of the goal and Claudinei Berger tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Claudinei Berger had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Uruguai's Rogério Santos got a free kick in the 69th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amílton Alves in the 72nd minute of play forced Baiaozinho's goalkeeper Oswaldo de Salles to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 74 minutes into the match, Uruguai's goal looked a bit too open when Dorival Paiva came free, but Nico de Queirós reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Dorival Paiva had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nico de Queirós made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bernardinho Vasconcelos in the 90th minute of play. After having played for 92 minutes, Amílton Alves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguai's supporters crossed their fingers, but Amílton Alves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Nico de Queirós made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dorival Paiva in the 98th minute of play. During the 98th minute of the match Rogério Santos completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Rogério Santos a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Rogério Santos kicked well hit freekick during the 99th minute of the match. In the 101st minute Dorival Paiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nico de Queirós saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Baiaozinho's supporters were highly satisfied with the result. They cheered their team of the pitch, having watched them win a very even match.
