Ediberto Tavares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luciano Madureira having to interfere. Ediberto Tavares took the ball and in the 21 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Luciano Madureira. Luciano Madureira dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. If Ediberto Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luiz Fábio Arantes in the 26thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Luciano Madureira, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Pedro Luís Correia took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Thomás Proença, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Thomás Proença sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fortaleza Esporte Clube's Luciano Madureira proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Fortaleza Esporte Clube from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Fortaleza Esporte Clube's Luciano Madureira got control of the ball when Ediberto Tavares tried to sneak it across the goal line. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When Guga Santos fell near the penalty area in the 80th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fortaleza Esporte Clube's protests and gave Guga Santos a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Cruangy booed when Fortaleza Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 80 match minutes in a wonderful position. Guga Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luiz Fábio Arantes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Luciano Madureira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 93 minutes, Luiz Fábio Arantes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Cruangy's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Fábio Arantes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Fortaleza Esporte Clube's zone, Luiz Fábio Arantes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Luciano Madureira came out of the goal and Luiz Fábio Arantes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cruangy were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Fortaleza Esporte Clube for a fine match.
