If Washington Recife had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 17 minutes, Dalmo Antunes made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Assiz SC's Maicon Severo tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 23rd minute of the game. One of CRAC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Assiz SC:s goal. Rafa de Castro's late challenge caught a Assiz SC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Rafa de Castro helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th minute, Rafa de Castro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 29th minute the ball was on its way in behind Assiz SC's goalkeeper Maicon Severo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 30 minutes in the game, Zé Pontes fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Dino dos Santos having to interfere. In the 33rd minute Zé Pontes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dino dos Santos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Maicon Severo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dalmo Antunes, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. After 36 minutes, Régis Alves mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Assiz SC and the CRAC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 37 played minutes Assiz SC got a freekick which was hit by Régis Alves. Washington Recife received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Maicon Severo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dalmo Antunes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of CRAC booed when Assiz SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Artur Simões didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 49th minute, Washington Recife managed to get in a good position for a shot. CRAC's supporters rose to their feet, but Washington Recife was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Maicon Severo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Zé Pontes to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dalmo Antunes in the 53rd minute of play forced Assiz SC's goalkeeper Maicon Severo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 59th minute, Luís Fábio Pinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.
