With his leg Horácio Cerezo managed to avoid a goal in the 23rdth minute, when Linhares FC's Nuno Leão fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Filipe Veloso in the 24th minute of play forced Linhares FC's goalkeeper Toninho Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Linhares FC's Nuno Leão got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 26th match minute, Casa Verde Alta was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luiz Paulo Koehler to maneuver through the defense. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 34th minute Oswaldo Sena shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Horácio Cerezo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Linhares FC's Toninho Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldinho de Lima in the 45th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

In the 74th minute of the match Linhares FC got a corner. Casa Verde Alta's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Linhares FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nuno Leão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. There was no doubt that Linhares FC were the better team. Linhares FC's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
