SERRASUL's Erasmo Matorin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Umberto Vander in the 5th minute of play. Erasmo Matorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Umberto Vander, who was totally free with the ball in the 8th minute. After having played for 10 minutes, Umberto Vander managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fortaleza EC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Umberto Vander was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Erasmo Matorin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Umberto Vander in the 23rd minute of play. If Tomás Vianna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Fortaleza EC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. André Luiz Velasco hit a great ball. Zézinho Neves didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Tomás Vianna went, in the 27th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Erasmo Matorin was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Umberto Vander showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 33 minute of play. E.C. SERRASUL's Erasmo Matorin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save E.C. SERRASUL from getting a goal against them. Benjamin Mineiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Erasmo Matorin made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in E.C. SERRASUL's zone, Umberto Vander stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Erasmo Matorin came out of the goal and Umberto Vander tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vladimir Silveira charged in rather forcefully in the 46th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vladimir Silveira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, E.C. SERRASUL's Vladimir Silveira got a free kick in the 46th minute. Benjamin Mineiro who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 48thth minute tested the skills of Erasmo Matorin when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Umberto Vander stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Kléberson Silva recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Edinho Antunes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. If Umberto Vander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 75 minutes, Benjamin Mineiro made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. E.C. SERRASUL's Erasmo Matorin tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. When Ademir Dante fell near the penalty area in the 79th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Fortaleza EC's protests and gave Ademir Dante a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Fortaleza EC getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Ademir Dante hit a great ball. Erasmo Matorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Umberto Vander, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. After 84 played minutes E.C. SERRASUL got a freekick which was hit by Luizinho Luz. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Umberto Vander managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fortaleza EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Umberto Vander was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erasmo Matorin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 89th minute, André Luiz Velasco made a precise shot to the right of Erasmo Matorin. E.C. SERRASUL's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. 95 minutes into the match, Fortaleza EC's Umberto Vander sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Erasmo Matorin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. E.C. SERRASUL's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
