SERRASUL's goal looked a bit too open when Ivo Bastos came free, but Erasmo Matorin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 12th minute, Dedé Duarte got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Erasmo Matorin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivo Bastos in the 14th minute of the match. In the 15th minute Ivo Bastos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erasmo Matorin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dedé Duarte's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Erasmo Matorin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. Ivo Bastos recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 18th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Edinho Antunes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luizinho Luz hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Erasmo Matorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dedé Duarte, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. The supporters of São Paulo Futebol Clube booed when E.C. SERRASUL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vladimir Silveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dedé Duarte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erasmo Matorin having to interfere. Dedé Duarte might have been able to make a better finish in the 48th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erasmo Matorin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dedé Duarte ran back to his position shaking his head. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Benê Freitas charged in rather forcefully in the 53rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Benê Freitas the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Erasmo Matorin made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dedé Duarte in the 59th minute. Ivo Bastos in the 61stth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Erasmo Matorin, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 62 played minutes E.C. SERRASUL got a freekick which was hit by Luizinho Luz. Armandinho Santos took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 63rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Erasmo Matorin. E.C. SERRASUL's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Dedé Duarte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Erasmo Matorin having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fernandinho Costa during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 71 played minutes São Paulo Futebol Clube got a freekick which was hit by Fernandinho Costa. 72 minutes into the match, Tomás Vianna had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sandrinho Mello. São Paulo Futebol Clube's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomás Vianna was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Fernandinho Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. São Paulo Futebol Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Fernandinho Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Erasmo Matorin breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tomás Vianna sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. When Kléberson Silva fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored E.C. SERRASUL's protests and gave Kléberson Silva a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, E.C. SERRASUL's Kléberson Silva got a free kick in the 93rd minute. Sandrinho Mello took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomás Vianna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. São Paulo Futebol Clube were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
