In the 10th minute, Arruda Futebol Clube's Renato de Azevedo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Renato de Azevedo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Arruda Futebol Clube protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Renato de Azevedo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. With a little luck, Arruda Futebol Clube's Leopoldo Britto got control of the ball when David Massa tried to sneak it across the goal line. David Massa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Fellipe Vidal received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Leopoldo Britto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. David Massa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fellipe Vidal could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 29th minute of the match, but Leopoldo Britto made a huge save. Fellipe Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leopoldo Britto having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 39th minute, Fellipe Vidal managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.Palmeiras's supporters rose to their feet, but Fellipe Vidal was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leopoldo Britto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. David Massa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leopoldo Britto having to make a save. Fellipe Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Leopoldo Britto having to interfere. After the first half Arruda Futebol Clube were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Leopoldo Britto showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Massa, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. After a rather tough play, Arruda Futebol Clube's Wanderson Abreu got a free kick in the 54th minute. In the 60th minute Laércio Quirino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leopoldo Britto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leopoldo Britto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from David Massa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Arruda Futebol Clube's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
