Criciúma EC's supporters rose to their feet, but Alessandro Rodrigues was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jano Quirino breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Rangers fc's Jano Quirino proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 12th minute of the match, managed to save Rangers fc from getting a goal against them. A collision led to Rangers fc getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. Rafa Neto hit a great ball. In the 26th match minute, Rangers fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Breno Couto to maneuver through the defense. Telmo Sousa didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Sebastião de Medeiros went, in the 30th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Telmo Sousa acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 57th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Abelardo Maranhense. 57 minutes into the game, one of Criciúma EC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. 67 minutes into the game, Sebastião de Medeiros recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Telmo Sousa. Sebastião de Medeiros showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. Jano Quirino didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marco da Fonseca went, in the 70th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-3 was the resulting score. After 74 played minutes Rangers fc got a freekick which was hit by Frédson da Costa. After some fancy dribbling in the 75th minute, Antônio Sá managed to get in a good position for a shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edu Bueno in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jano Quirino saved Rangers fc from getting behind. After 92 minutes of play, Rangers fc's Sebastião de Medeiros made it 1-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Telmo Sousa was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Sebastião de Medeiros in the 98th minute of play forced Criciúma EC's goalkeeper Telmo Sousa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
