A collision led to Vargem getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Gualter Aguiar hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Criciúma EC's Alessandro Rodrigues got a free kick in the 31st minute. 39 minutes into the game, Edu Bueno was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Criciúma EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Vargem the free kick. Edu Bueno kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. In the 40th minute, Sílvio Luiz Brito got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adilson Munhoz in the 42nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Telmo Sousa prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 46th match minute, Criciúma EC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alessandro Rodrigues to maneuver through the defense. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Antônio Sá stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Guga Macedo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 73rd match minute, Vargem was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sérgio Velasco to maneuver through the defense. The audience held their breath when Antônio Sá in the 81st minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Guga Macedo's left hand side. The referee felt a red card was in order, 86 minutes into the game, when Aloísio Vides put in a rough tackle. 85 minutes into the game, one of Criciúma EC:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Nuno Rodrigues's late challenge caught a Vargem's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Nuno Rodrigues helped the player get up and apologised. After 93 played minutes Criciúma EC got a freekick which was hit by Nuno Rodrigues. In the 94th minute, Gualter Aguiar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Vargem had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
