In the 11th minute Osvaldinho Esteves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristian de Amorim saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, E. C. Vila Mariana's Ronaldinho Alves got a free kick in the 14th minute. If Adilson Tavares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. C. Vila Mariana's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Durval Rossi was slow to take the kick. During this time Nova Esperança Soccer's players had a chance to rest. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luiz Fábio da Mata stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Cristian de Amorim yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-2. Joélson Quadros showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Adilson Tavares in the 80th minute of the match. Durval Rossi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Célio Varela helped the player get up and apologised. After 89 played minutes E. C. Vila Mariana got a freekick which was hit by Célio Varela. Adilson Tavares hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. Osvaldinho Esteves received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Cristian de Amorim came out and tried to block the shot, but Osvaldinho Esteves slotted it home off the left post making it 1-3 in the 92nd minute. When Adilson Tavares came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Nova Esperança Soccer fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adilson Tavares couldn't finish the play. The Nova Esperança Soccer manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing E. C. Vila Mariana to win.
