Spectators: 6667 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1667, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Gernando Paiva started the match with the kick off. Hernani Neiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dadá de Barros having to interfere. In the 10th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esporte Clube Bahia's goalkeeper Narciso Novaes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Narciso Novaes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gernando Paiva in the 12th minute of the match. Caxias's Magno Tróia got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 17 played minutes, Caxias's Róbson Penha shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Narciso Novaes came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Caxias reached it. Magno Tróia received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Narciso Novaes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Magno Tróia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Narciso Novaes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 32 minutes, Norberto Vinhas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Caxias and the Esporte Clube Bahia players grew even worse after the yellow card. Narciso Novaes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Esporte Clube Bahia's Narciso Novaes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gernando Paiva in the 44th minute of play.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Hernani Neiva in the 52nd minute of play forced Caxias's goalkeeper Dadá de Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Esporte Clube Bahia's Vágner Sergipano got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 70th minute Hernani Neiva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dadá de Barros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gernando Paiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Narciso Novaes having to interfere. In the 76thth minute of the game Magno Tróia who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Esporte Clube Bahia's Narciso Novaes was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Esporte Clube Bahia's Hernani Neiva in the 78th minute got a chance for a shot 78th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
