If Gilson Vander had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Gilson Vander received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Raúl Aguiar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 32 minutes, Gilson Vander managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jeru SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Gilson Vander was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilson Vander in the 40th minute of play forced Houston FC's goalkeeper Raúl Aguiar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Afonso Sousa kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Agnaldo Sergipano. That made the score 1-0 in the 47 minute of play.

Agnaldo Sergipano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Afonso Sousa, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. The audience was convinced that Afonso Sousa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Agnaldo Sergipano was relentless in the 59th minute of the game.
