Palestra de Tomini's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Icatu SC the free kick. The supporters of Icatu SC booed when Palestra de Tomini was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Samuca da Silva didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Fabiano da Silveira came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Icatu SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fabiano da Silveira couldn't finish the play. Anderson Rocha sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 40 minutes of play, Icatu SC's Armando Trancoso made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but João Borges showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The wind increased when Fabiano da Silveira made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Icatu SC getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Nelsinho Vinhas hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fabiano da Silveira in the 57th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck João Borges prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Arlindo Pirani's late challenge caught a Palestra de Tomini's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Arlindo Pirani helped the player get up and apologised. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Chico Cardoso in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg João Borges saved Palestra de Tomini from getting behind. Chico Cardoso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. João Borges tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. João Borges showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fabiano da Silveira, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fabiano da Silveira in the 93rd minute of play forced Palestra de Tomini's goalkeeper João Borges to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Icatu SC walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
