But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luisinho Santos couldn't finish the play. Mathias Dias might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Silvinho Pimenta. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mathias Dias ran back to his position shaking his head.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cacá Andrade made a kick off. Botafogo's Benedito Gomes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Botafogo from getting a goal against them. In the 55th minute of the match C.A. Metropolitano U18 got a corner. Botafogo's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Edvaldo de Barros ran over to the corner to take the kick. Dedé Pinheiro charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dedé Pinheiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Botafogo's Dedé Pinheiro got a free kick in the 56th minute. Luisinho Santos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Silvinho Pimenta tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Silvinho Pimenta stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Luisinho Santos's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. In the 70th minute Luisinho Santos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Silvinho Pimenta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 72nd minute, Luisinho Santos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Silvinho Pimenta was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-2. Luís Britto's late challenge caught a Botafogo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
