Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Ricardo Sá started the match with the kick off. 8 minutes into the match, Cairú Futebol Clube's Narciso Valle sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Valdir Madureira narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Narciso Valle received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Valdir Madureira tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 16 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Saldanha! In the 18th minute there was a penalty for Cairú Futebol Clube. Sandro Netto stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Valdir Madureira. 0-2. After 21 minutes of play, Cairú Futebol Clube's Narciso Valle made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Valdir Madureira was left in no man's land by his defense there! Valdir Madureira showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sérgio Sanches, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. 28 minutes into the game, Cairú Futebol Clube's Geovani Marquez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Valdir Madureira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. In the 33rd minute Sérgio Sanches shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valdir Madureira saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 34 minutes into the game, Narciso Valle cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-5. Valdir Madureira was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 39 played minutes Ricardo Sá rounded Cairú Futebol Clube's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-5. After 42 played minutes Cairú Futebol Clube got a freekick which was hit by Zé Paulo Novaes. Ricardo Sá received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 43rd minute. Sidney Braga tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Valdir Madureira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sérgio Sanches in the 47th minute of the match. After the first half Cairú Futebol Clube were leading 1-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Sérgio Sanches to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Cipriano Arantes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Sérgio Sanches kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Valdir Madureira. That made the score 1-6 in the 55 minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, Saldanha's goalkeeper Valdir Madureira had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Narciso Valle. With a little luck, Saldanha's Valdir Madureira got control of the ball when Narciso Valle tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 64 minutes, Ricardo Sá managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Saldanha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ricardo Sá was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sérgio Sanches sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 70 minutes into the game, Cairú Futebol Clube's Geovani Marquez nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Valdir Madureira made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-7. 73 minutes into the match, Narciso Valle had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Valdir Madureira. Saldanha's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Narciso Valle was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-8. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elano Schmidt in the 78th minute of play forced Saldanha's goalkeeper Valdir Madureira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 81st minute Cipriano Arantes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sidney Braga saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Saldanha booed when Cairú Futebol Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Narciso Valle didn't get a good kick on the ball. Narciso Valle could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 84th minute of the match, but Valdir Madureira made a huge save. Ricardo Sá struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Sidney Braga didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Saldanha. Sérgio Sanches kicked well hit freekick during the 90th minute of the match. Valdir Madureira was out of position in the 94 minute of play, and Sérgio Sanches capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Sérgio Sanches really showed his touch with that goal: 1-9.
