Lauro Gonçalves charged in rather forcefully in the 30th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Lauro Gonçalves the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Wahid Carro made a fantastic save in the 40th minute, when Alfredinho Sergipano sent off a good shot on target. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Lúcio Linares managed to get in a good position for a shot. VASCO DA GAMA 1898's supporters rose to their feet, but Lúcio Linares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wahid Carro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 43 played minutes Guaraxaim got a freekick which was hit by Marcelo Brito. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
